Evelyn is ready for relaunch

by Mark on March 4, 2009

I spent a few days at the back end of last week preparing Evelyn for relaunch.  Whilst out of the water the key jobs to be done were to re-antifoul the hull and replace the sacrificial anodes.  The anodes were replaced easily enough but between the two of them cost about £50.  The first coat of antifoul went on but because the hull was dark blue before and I’d decided to use a dark red antifoul the finish was a bit patchy and although it’s daylight robbery at £45 per tin of the stuff I really needed to apply a second coat for it to look ok.

This is a picture of the hull prior to antifouling:

And this is a pictue of her with the new antifoul on:

In addition to antifouling the other big job that needed doing was to repair a broken stanchion base.

This next picture shows the annodes, the big one being actually on the hull, and the smaller one on the prop shaft to protect the underwater metal from the effects of electrolysis.

Forgive my exuberance, but she’s one of my prized possessions, and although brought a couple of years after her death she’s named after my Grandmother.
